New to Medicare

Enrolling in Medicare
Parts A and B

Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B are the basic foundation to Medicare.

Anyone who qualifies for Medicare Part A will be automatically enrolled effective the 1st of the month of their 65th birthday, unless the applicants date of birth is on the 1st of the month, in which case their Medicare Part A will be effective the 1st of the month prior.

Medicare Part B may or may not need to be applied for. If you have already activated your social security income Medicare Part B will be automatically activated, if Social Security Income is not yet being received then Medicare Part B must be applied for.

Both Part A and Part B benefits are universal for each applicant.

Each applicant has a 7 month window to apply for Medicare during their Initial Election Period, starting 3 months prior to their birth month and ending 3 months after.

There are three ways that an applicant can apply for Medicare Part B.

1) Calling the Social Security office

2) Filling out a paper application and mailing it to the Social Security Administration or dripping it off at your closest physical location

3) Turning in a digital application through www.ssa.gov

Either way, we’re here to help with any snags that come up, questions you may have, or if you just want a hand to guide you through the application

Unlike Medicare, Medicaid eligibility is not limited to age, rather it’s verified by income; as a form of extra help. And unlike Medicare, Medicaid eligibility is reverified on an annual basis.

Much like the Medicare Application, the Medicaid application an be filled out either on paper and turned into your closest Department of Welfare and Social Services office (or mailed in) or you can fill out the application online at:

Most applicants require a 2 year wait after Disability has been approved by the SSA. Though the qualification methods are different, the benefits for the Medicare recipient are the same. Some examples of Qualifying Medical Disabilities are:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Mental Illness
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • ALS
  • ERSD
